What counties made the list for most dangerous for drunk driving?

Recently, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety came out with a list naming 13 counties as the state’s most dangerous for drunk driving. This list was based on DWI accident and citation figures covering 2012 to 2016.

These are the counties included on the list:

  • Hennepin
  • Ramsey
  • Anoka
  • Dakota
  • St. Louis
  • Washington
  • Stearns
  • Wright
  • Otter Tail
  • Olmsted
  • Cass
  • Scott
  • Crow Wing

The statistics point to these counties seeing a high number of drunk driving cases. During the 2012 to 2016 period, nearly two-thirds of the DWIs issued in the state came from these 13 counties.

Being identified as a “high-risk” place for drunk driving can affect DWI enforcement in an area. This can be seen in the counties on this list. In all 13 of them, extra drunk driving patrols will be conducted through September 2019. One wonders what impacts this upped enforcement will end up having on the number of DWIs issued in these parts of Minnesota.

When a person ends up facing DWI charges in connection to an enforcement blitz, what happens next can have big implications for his or her life. A drunk driving conviction can carry fines, license suspensions, jail time and other significant consequences.

Now, there are ways to fight DWI charges. Some examples of things that could potentially be challenged include:

  • Whether there is enough evidence to show that a crime occurred
  • Whether the evidence police obtained, such as breath test evidence, is accurate and reliable
  • Whether police acted appropriately when conducting a stop, arrest or breath test

What specific avenues would be available for attacking the prosecution’s case in DWI proceedings depends on the circumstances. So, when Minnesotans are facing drunk driving charges, it can be important for them to go to a skilled attorney for guidance on their particular defense options.
